A man who was gunned down in a row over a watch told police at the scene he had no idea who had just shot him, a court heard.

Seconds after Steven Stocker, 33, had blasted Nathan Cooper in the leg and aimed a second shot at his head, the cowering victim told an officer: ‘I couldn’t tell you who did it bruv.

‘

Mr Cooper, 25, was gunned down in Fulham, west London, after his friend grabbed a stolen watch from Stocker and his 21-year-old nephew, also called Steven Stocker, it is alleged.

Police Sergeant Mark Vickers told the Old Bailey he arrived at the incident moments after the second pellet ripped through Mr Cooper’s hand.

He said: ‘I attended a meeting at about 3pm on September 26.

On the way, I walked past the scene of the incident in the Clem Attlee Estate on Lillie Road.

‘About five or ten minutes into the meeting, I heard a very loud bang.

A few minutes after this, a young woman at the meeting said there had been a shooting and I was called to the incident.

‘I saw a man was lying on the floor in a car park area and I saw members of the public giving him first aid.

I tried to find witnesses to the incident.

‘When I spoke to Mr Cooper, he was conscious.

I asked him who had done this and he said he didn’t know.

‘

Stocker senior’s barrister, Raymond Lewis, asked the witness: ‘Was the exact wording of what Mr Cooper said ”I couldn’t tell you, bruv?”.

‘

Ps Vickers replied: ‘Yes, I recall that’s exactly what he said.

‘

The court has heard Stocker senior was caught on CCTV at Parsons Green tube station calmly carrying a shotgun just minutes after the shooting

‘This case is an example of what can happen when thieves fall out,’ Penny Rector, prosecuting, has told jurors.

She said the dispute began when Mr Cooper’s pal Aaron Johnson snatched an expensive Cartier watch from the Stockers.

The watch had been offered to Mr Cooper and Mr Johnson for pnds stlg 300 and had been stolen in a burglary earlier that day, the court heard.

Mr Johnson allegedly tried the watch on and fled still wearing it.

Later, the younger defendant came across Mr Cooper and ordered him into the back of his car where his uncle was waiting, the court heard.

The older relative shot his victim in the hand and the thigh before fleeing, jurors have heard.

Mr Cooper survived the shooting after undergoing surgery at Charing Cross Hospital.

Stocker senior was arrested two weeks later in Hastings, east Sussex and denied any involvement in the incident.

His nephew was caught on New Years Day this year, but made no comment when quizzed by detectives.

Stocker senior, of [53] Herbert House, Lillie Road, Fulham, denies attempted murder.

He and his nephew, of the same address, both deny wounding with intent, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and carrying a firearm.

The trial continues.
