Accused Jellycat thieves face two year trial wait

Two alleged thieves accused of stealing nearly £1,825 worth of  Jellycat toys from Selfridges will have to wait more than two years for their trial.

Muen Yang, 22, and Weijie Wang, also 22, grabbed the items from the prestigious Oxford Street department store on 20 March, it is claimed.

The two defendants appeared at Southwark Crown Court today, and were aided by a Mandarin interpreter.

They both pleaded not guilty to one count of theft.

Danny Barnard, prosecuting, said that there is CCTV evidence of the theft.

‘The prosecution say that there are three minutes that show the defendants taking the toys.’

Judge David Tomlinson told the pair that they would have to wait over two years for their trial.

‘You trial will be on Monday October 16 2028, so about two-and-a-half years from now.’

‘You must not go to Selfridges in Oxford Street until this is sorted.’
