A curry house kitchen porter was cleared of attempting to rape
a teenager – but convicted of indecently assaulting her.
Inner London Crown Court was told by a Maida Vale 15-year
-old that she had to use a broken bottle to stave off a rape attempt
by stocky kitchen porter Suab Ali.
The 39-year-old porter who lives and works at the ‘Discovery of
India’ restaurant in Dorset Street, W.
1 denied attempted rape,
indecent assault and causing actual bodily harm to the girl from
(Mozart Estate) Harrow Road on October 4.
He had claimed that she was a prostitute who had tried to ‘roll’
him for all the cash he had on pay day without providing a service.
The jury returned guilty verdicts on the two assault charges
and sentence was deferred for social inquiry reports until
March 9.
The teenager had told the jury how she was offered a ride home
by Ali, who then invited her into the restaurant where he worked,
for a drink.
He flew into a rage when she refused to have sex and dragged
her down into the basement where he stripped himself and pinned
her to the floor.
The gutsy girl told jurors: ‘I pulled his hair and fought him.
‘I pulled hard and kneed him in the face and then cut him on the
face with a broken bottle,’ she said.
Police found the bleeding girl on the West End streets after
she had managed to break out of the restaurant.
Prosecuting, Mr Peter Walsh said: ‘The girl was not a
prostitute and she was frightened for her life.
