COUNSELL:ANXIOUS WAIT FOR PHYSIO ACCUSED OF CUPPING STUDENT’S BOTTOM
A physiotherapist accused of cupping a student’s bottom and rubbing up against her for his own sexual gratification faces an anxious wait after his hearing was adjourned.
Matthew Counsell, 32, waged a ‘sustained campaign of sexual harassment’ against the 22-year-old while acting her her clinical educator, the Health Professions Council heard.
He regularly touched her inappropriately during demonstrations in a cubicle with the curtain closed, during her placement at Longridge Community Hospital in Preston, Lancashire, it is claimed.
The physiotherapist was suspended from his work and arrested over the allegations.
He was later cleared of sexual assault at a trial at Preston Crown Court.
Counsell denies all charges, except for an occasion in which he placed his arm around RD while carrying out a demonstration.
His hearing ran out of time before the panel had the chance to consider whether the facts were proved.
The hearing was adjourned until later this year.
