DEMIR:BOMBACILAR MEMBER JAILED FOR ORDERING GANG ATTACK

A member of the notorious Turkish ‘Bombacilars’ has been jailed for five and a half years for organising a horrific gang attack on a security guard.

Ahmed Demir, 34, commanded his cronies to batter Sanir Tahsiner with an iron rod and said: ‘Don’t you know who I am.’

Mr Tahsiner was left with a fractured skull and a broken hand after he was chased into a coffee shop and attacked in front of horrified diners, the court heard.

He was attacked from behind, as Demir warned punters: ‘No one is going to interfere in this,’ jurors were told.

Demir was jailed for five years and six months after a jury unanimously concluded he was guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent by organising the mob.

Mr Tahsiner he had been on the way to visit his cousin in Well Street, Hackney, at around 4pm on January 19 this year when he ran into Demir, who had seen once previously.

Joe Plowright, prosecuting, said: ‘A conversation struck up between the two of them, and at one point the defendant said to him something along the lines of “Do you know who I am?”

‘The defendant then indicated he was member of the Bombacilar, which Mr Tahsiner understood to be a Turkish gang.’

After Tahsiner protested that it was none of his business, Demir said: ‘I will introduce you,’ before made a phone call calling a gang to the street.

‘They started hitting me from behind with an iron or something, and I could hear the sounds of glass,’ said Mr Tahsiner.

One of them was armed with an iron rod used to pry tyres of cars, he said, but he could not see much as his eyes were filled with blood pouring from his head.

‘My eyes were filled with blood,’ he said.

He had to be taken to hospital for his injuries, which included a serious scalp injury with bone fragments from his skull, a broken little finger and bruising to his left side.

Demir was later arrested and made no comment in a police interview.

‘The prosecution say he was initially the person who organised this because of the phone call,’ said Mr Plowright.

‘Although not the person who directly caused the injury to by hitting Mr Tahsiner, he was the organiser of this attack on Mr Tahsiner.’

Demir, of (31) Elsinge Road, Enfield, Middlesex, denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent, but was found guilty after a trial.

His lawyer argued that there was no evidence that he was genuinely part of the Turkish gang, which is linked to organised drug dealing and shootings.

He was sentenced to five years and six months jail.
