DEMIR:BOMBACILAR MEMBER ORDERED ATTACK AND SAID: ‘DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM’
An off-duty security guard told how his eyes ‘filled with blood’ after he was blugeoned over the head with a metal bar in a coffee shop.
Ahmed Demir, 34, allegedly ordered the gang attack after Sanir Tahsiner failed to recognise he was a member of the notorious Bombacilar gang.
Mr Tahsiner was left with a fractured skull and a broken hand after he was savagely beaten in front of horrified cafe customers, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.
Joe Plowright, prosecuting, said: ‘The defendant indicated he was member of the Bombacilar, which Mr Tahsiner understood to be a Turkish gang.
‘He then indicated to Mr Tahsiner that he was going to show him just how powerful he was.’
Up to seven men are said to have been involved in the fracas.
Demir allegedly led the charge, warning diners: ‘No one is going to interfere in this.’
The court heard that Mr Tahsiner had been travelling to visit his cousin on January 19 when he ran into Demir on Well Street, Hackney, east London, at around 4pm.
The 34-year-old walked up to him and said: ‘Do you know who I am?’, before asking: ‘Have you heard of the the Bombacilar?’, the court heard.
‘I will introduce you,’ he promised ominously, before calling gang members in the street and asking ‘Attack this person.’
Tahsiner ran into the coffee shop but was pursued and attacked by the group – one of whom wielded an iron rod.
He said: ‘They started hitting me from behind with an iron or something, and I could hear the sounds of glass.’
‘My eyes were filled with blood.’
Mr Tahsiner had to be taken to hospital for his injuries, which included a serious scalp injury with bone fragments from his skull, a broken finger and bruising to his left side.
Demir was later arrested but refused to answer detectives’ questions during a taped interview.
Mr Plowright said: ‘He was initially the person who organised this because of the phone call.
‘Although not the person who directly caused the injury to by hitting Mr Tahsiner, he was the organiser of this attack on Mr Tahsiner.’
Demir, of (31) Elsinge Road, Enfield, Middlesex, denies wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The trial continues.
