One of Britain’s most incompetent bandits had his
wish granted by an Old Bailey judge when he was jailed for
a year.

Anthony Doyle, 54, has spent most of is life behind bars
and on July 14 last year asked his probation officer to send him
back inside.

When the officer refused, Doyle walked up the road
and tried to rob a bank with a barely legible demand note.

But he was foxed when the cashier Miss Amanda Tweedie
coolly told him: ‘You’re at the wrong counter.

Doyle then asked to see the manager who came to speak to
him, said prosecutor Mr Neil Stewart.

The grey haried villan said: ‘I know you’ve called the
police.

I’m going to leave and I’ll come back for the money later.

‘
He then walked out of the Midland Bank on Tottenham Court
Road and was later spotted by police walking back towards it.

Doyle told officers he earlier had a gun but had dumped it
in a waste bin.

All the bins in the area were searched but no gun was found.

Doyle, who was living at a hostel in Gower Street, Euston
admitted attempted robbery.

The court heard he first offended at the age of thirteen
and has since amassed convictions for assault, burglary, theft,
driving whilst disqualified, handling stolen goods and escaping
from custody.

Doyle was serving a probation order for burglary when
he was arrested.

Passing sentence Judge Neil Denison, QC said: ‘This is
one of the most incompetant attempts at robbery I have ever come
across.

‘I suspect it was done in expectation and possibly hope
you would be arrested and sent back to prison.
