Paddington slasher gets 15 years

A knife wielding robber who left two men with life-changing injuries has been jailed for 15 years.

Abdulnabi Alainani, 35, slashed his two victims across the face in a bid to steal from them in Paddington last summer.

Alainani demanded money from a man who was walking along Edgware Road on 1 July.

Alainani grabbed him before slashing him across the face with two knives and stole several items from him before fleeing the scene.

The victim was left with permanent scars.

Four weeks later, at around 1:30am on 29 July, Alainani attacked a second man in Praed Street.

He attempted to rob him, then slashed him across the face, Southwark Crown Court heard.

Following the attack, police searched the area and found Alainani carrying two knives.

Alainani, of no fixed address, was convicted by a jury of two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery, attempted robbery and four of having an article with a blade or point.

He was jailed for 15 years.

Detective Constable Camilla Milinksa said: ‘These were random and unprovoked attacks on two innocent men who will be left dealing with the consequences for the rest of their lives.

‘I have no doubt that Alainani would have gone on to attack other victims and I am certain that the streets of London are safer with him behind bars.

While we’ve made great progress at tackling violent crime over the past few years, this should act as an important reminder that we’re not complacent and those who are involved in such awful behaviour will be brought to justice.’
