A pensioner smuggled more than 600,000 rare baby eels to the Far East from a barn in the West Country, a court heard. Gilbert Khoo, 66, imported the elvers from Spain before hiding them under hauls of chilled fish and sending them off to Heathrow. The European glass eels were bound for Malaysia and Hong Kong, where they are a culinary delicacy.
