The cousin of a student stabbed to death in a pett
The cousin of a student stabbed to death in a petty feud, described how the bloody fight grew out of an exchange of stares in an alleyway.
Mohammed Abdullahi told the Old Bailey he was enrolling at Southgate College when a teenager asked: ‘What are you looking at?’
Four days later Abdul Osman, 18, was killed while Abdullahi and Avanash Aubeelack were meant to be having a ‘one-on-one’ to settle their dispute.
Mr Osman left a trail of blood as he staggered to the nearby police station after being knifed in the neck and died later that day.
It is claimed Bodrul Miah, 20, fatally wounded Osman using a blade handed to him in a Snickers wrapper by Ryan Reid, 19.
Both deny murder.
Four other Southgate College students, including Aubeelack, 20, are on trial in connection with the attack on September 13 last year.
Giving evidence today (Mon) Mr Abdullahi denied barging into Aubeelack, and waving a Lucozade bottle at him aggressively on September 9 last year.
He said: ‘I went to get my student ID card and he was there waiting for me with his friends and I remember something being flicked at my face.
‘He came up to me from behind and tried to drag me out of the the college.
He said he was going to bust me.
‘
On September 13, Mr Abdullahi and four friends including Abdul Osman, Mustafa Osman and Abdi Hassan met Aubeelack’s group outside the Woolwich bank.
They walked up Crown Lane and a short time later Mr Abdullahi turned round to see the other group coming towards them with Aubeelack at the front, he said.
That group included Bodrul Miah, Ryan Reid, Marcus Oranu and Mohammed Mollany.
Mr Abdullahi said Aubeelack was running with ‘his hands down his trousers.
‘
He said there was six of them, adding: ‘The sixth boy is not in this courtroom but I know he was there and people have said to me he has admitted being there.
‘He was much smaller than the others and looked around 15 or 16.
I told the rest of my group I would be prepared to have a fight.
‘
But Mr Abdullahi said he could remember only hazy details of the stabbing of Abdul and Mustafa Osman by Bodrul Miah.
He told the court: ‘The short, chubby Indian (Miah) was waving his hands in front of him while Abdul was punching him.
I couldn’t see what was in his (Miah’s) hand.
‘
After chasing away Miah and Reid towards the college he returned to the scene and saw Mustafa Osman leaning against a wall.
‘He looked alright so I went to look for Abdul.
There were lots of people outside the police station and I went up the stairs and saw Abdul on the floor.
‘There were two police officers treating him.
I opened the door and there was lots of blood all around him.
‘A big pool of blood like he had a head injury.
I saw he was really badly hurt.
I was crying.
I screamed when I first saw him.
‘I just wanted to go and find the boys who were responsible.
A police officer tried to arrest me but I got away.
‘
He ran back to Southgate College and was caught by police challenging Ryan Reid, who was then arrested.
Miah and Reid alone deny murder.
Miah, of Ascot Road, Reid, of Appleby Close, Marcus Oranu, 18, of Appleby Close, Mohammed Mollany, 19, of Forest Gardens and Aubeelack, of Gladesmore Road, all Tottenham, all deny violent disorder and affray.
Miah and Aubeelack also deny the attempted wounding of Mustafa Osman.
Bodrul’s dad Basharath, 46, of Ascot Road, denies perverting the course of justice by helping his son flee the country to Bangladesh.
The trial continues.
