A boyfriend murdered his fiancee minutes after they had sex in a park because he was terrified she was going to leave him, a court heard.

Christopher Levey, 23, strangled 16-year-old Carol Sanderson then blamed the murder on a gang of mystery black men, it was alleged.

But when the teenager was pronounced dead three days later Levey was arrested at the hospital.

Detectives then discovered he had told a family friend about a plan to poison them both.

Levey allegedly said: ‘I have got to meet these two boys to get the pills.

‘We would have to take them, shut our eyes and we would not wake up.

‘

The Old Bailey heard Levey went to Crystal Palace Park with Carol on April 19 and decided to ‘try for a baby.

‘

‘What he he is saying in a nutshell is that he and Carol Sanderson had gone into the park to have sex,’ said prosecutor Mr Dorian Lovell-Pank, QC.

‘They had sex up against a tree in the park.

Shortly after that, when they were tidying themselves up, a group of men suddenly approached.

‘

According to Levey, he was grabbed by one gang of attackers while another mob turned their attentions to Carol.

‘One group of men seized him and held him on the ground so he could not see or cry out.

‘Up to three of the others had taken her away into the darkness.

‘

Levey called friends and relatives on his mobile telephone and they in turned raised the alarm with the police.

‘When the emergency arrived they found the defendant by some bushes,’ Mr Lovell-Pank continued.

‘He indicated to them where Carol was.

She was lying in an area of dense wood and shrubs.

She was unconscious and lying on her back.

‘

Carol, originally from County Durham, was only wearing one trainer, her jeans were almost completely undone and her knickers torn.

She had a total of 42 marks on her body, including strangulation injuries around her neck and the marks of repeated punching on her face, the jury heard.

There were also bruises to her lips where Levey had ‘shut her up’ said Mr Lovell-Pank.

She was rushed to Croydon’s Mayday hospital as friends questioned Levey about what had happened.

One asked him five times whether he had harmed Carol but he kept shaking his head and looking away, the court heard.

‘On the fifth occasion he looked away again and said: ”No, they will think its me,” Mr Lovell-Pank told the jury.

Levey later went on to say Carol had been put in a car and he had been threatened with a knife.

When she died on April 22 this year he was arrested at the Mayday hospital.

Detectives had discovered he believed Carol was seeing another man was about to walk out on him.

He said: ‘I cannot live without her and I have never loved anyone like I love her.

‘

When interviewed as a suspect, Levey angrily told the police they should be hunting the gang of black men and not questioning him.

Levey, who had lived with Carol at Melbourne Court, Anerley Road, Anerley, denies murder.

The trial continues.
