A secretary became ‘a monster’ and looked like something out
of a horror movie after being drugged and raped by a top
Harley Street doctor, the jury heard.
The 26-year-old woman turned up with Dr Courtney three hours
late for a dinner party at a friend’s house.
‘She was not the friend I had known for six years.
She was
a monster,’ her host told the court.
The woman added:’She just looked terrible, like something
out of a horror movie.
She looked very tired and drawn, really
awful.
She didn’t look drunk.
It was as if the lights were on
but no one was in.
I had never seen her like this before.
‘
The woman said she was ‘livid’ because her guests, who had
not met before that day, appeared to have had sex with each
other at the doctor’s surgery which had made them very late
for the dinner party.
She told the court:’I took her into the kitchen for another
yell.
I was more worried about the fact that I was angry than
what had happened to her.
She had been so inconsiderate
not to telephone.
‘
The woman added:’I didn’t shout loudly, it was through
gritted teeth.
I remember asking her if she was drunk or on
drugs and what she was playing at because I just couldn’t understand
what was happening.

The alleged victim, Miss A, just stood there mumbling, the
court heard.
Asked how Miss A behaved during the dinner her friend
said:’She just wasn’t there.
She was playing with her food.
She did not join in the conversation or anything.
She complained of being unwell.
‘
At one point Miss A left the dinner table, went to the
bathroom, and did not return.
The witness said:’I found her lying on the floor of the
bathroom with her hands over her face.
She was just lying
there.
I lifted the hair away from her face.
She was just grinning
at me like an idiot.
There was just no one at home.
‘
Later Miss A said something about feeling silly for having
collapsed, the court heard.
The witness and her husband went to bed leaving Miss A
and the doctor alone, the court heard.
‘Up until that point and for an awful long time
afterwards I had decided they liked each other, to put it
politely,’ she added.
Before going to bed the witness asked the doctor if he
was staying the night.
She said:’My friend didn’t look pleased, but she didn’t
exactly jump up and shout anything.
Her face sort of dropped.
‘
The doctor said he could not stay because he had to be
up early for work the next morning.
The following day, the court heard, the witness asked
her friend how the doctor had stayed.
‘She looked at me
stupidly and said “Long enough,”‘ the witness added.
The court heard that Dr Courtney, who set up his own
Aids Foundation, did not use a condom when he had sex with
the secretary, it was revealed.
The witness said her friend wanted to go to hospital
that morning for the morning after pill.
She told the court:’I was absolutley flabbergasted that
a doctor who worked with Aids would not have used a condom.
‘
The witness said she was still angry with her friend
and wanted to know what had happened.
‘She said she had been given a glass of champagne.
She had taken one sip and could not remember anything until she
woke up in the shower.
I asked her how she knew he had
sex with her.
She said she got out of the shower and was
putting her underwear on when it spilled out of her private parts.
She knew from the consistency and the smell what it was,’
the witness added.
The woman added:’She said it was as if it had all been a
dream and she didn’t understand why she had done it.
Until the
police approached me I just thought it was strange but voluntary.
‘
She told the court that her friend still seemed ill the
day after the dinner party.
The weekend destroyed their friendship, the jury heard.
The woman said:’I was so disgusted about the whole thing.
We didn’t
speak again until the police contacted me.
I telephone my friend
to apologise.
I felt so terrible.
