A gambler who killed his opponent with an empty gas canister after losing a game of blackjack was jailed for life at the Old Bailey today.

Muhamood Muyingo, 20, hurled the 14 kilo steel bottle at Henry Majambere as he fled down a flight of stairs with his winnings.
It rebounded off the wall and struck the 24-year-old care worker in the back of the head.
Sentencing Muyingo to life imprisonment at the Old Bailey today the Recorder of London, Judge Michael Hyam said: ‘You killed him after playing cards with him and after a quarrel over what had been won and lost.
‘You threw the canister which catapulted him down the stairs which as a result led to his immediate death.
‘Perhaps had he fallen differently death would not have ensued – no one can tell.
‘
Mr Majambere, known as Keyinje, fell forward and hit the steps face first, dying instantly from massive head injuries.
The Ugandan pair had been playing blackjack for 20 pound stakes in [4] Dacre Road, Forest Gate, on the evening of November 3, 1999.
‘Muyingo had been losing to Henry Majambere who had won money from him more than once in the evening,’ said prosecutor Rebecca Poulet, QC.
Muyingo’s unlucky streak continued before he finally lost his temper and refused to pay out after his final loss.
A row erupted and the two began pushing and shoving each other.
When Muyingo finally handed over the cash he demanded a gold chain that had been taken from him during the row.
Miss Poulet added: ‘Keyinje then started towards the top of the stairs and the defendant lifted and empty gas canister.
‘He was heard to say “I’m going to hit you with it if you don’t give me back my chain.
”
‘Keyinje did not reply.
Muyingo swung the canister at his head and threw it over the bannister at him.
‘
Muyingo did not realise how seriously injured his victim was and continued to demand his ‘chain’ back.
He bolted from the scene, telling one witness “I’m going and you better leave as well.
“‘
He fled to South Africa and remained at large before detectives discovered his haven and extradited him back to the UK.
Mr Majambere and Muyingo were both Ugandan nationals who had come to England from Rwanda in 1998.
Muyingo, who denied murder, showed no emotion as he was taken down.
In the public gallery relatives of the victim applauded the judge as he sentenced the murderer to life behind bars.
