STEPHEN LAWRENCE’S PARENTS IN COURT TO SEE SON’S KILLERS STAND TRIAL

The parents of murdered schoolboy Stephen Lawrence were at the Old Bailey today (mon) to see the two accused of the killing go on trial.

Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris, 35, allegedly stabbed the black 18-year-old at a bus stop in Eltham, southeast London, on 22 April, 1993.

The pair are said to have been part of a racist white gang that ‘targeted and killed’ the student because of the colour of his skin.

Stephen’s mother Doreen Lawrence and father Neville, who have since separated, were greeted by a scrum of photographers and TV crews outside the court this morning.

Jury selection for the two month trial was due to start this morning with proceedings delayed
after a prison van escorting Dobson and Norris from Belmarsh jail was help up in traffic.

The trial is likely to last until January 2012, with a total of 52 witnesses being called.

Stephen was with friend Duwayne Brooks in Well Hall Road shortly after 10.35pm when he was stabbed twice in the upper torso.

He collapsed on the pavement and died later in hospital.

Dobson and Norris were arrested last September.

Both men pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing in July.
