WILLIAMSON: ACTRESS’S MURDER TRIAL DELAYED UNTIL NEW YEAR

A former EastEnders actress accused of battering an 86 year-old woman to death and stealing her jewellery has had her trial put back to February next year.

Karen Williamson, who has also featured in The Bill, is charged with the murder of Jean Jobson in Downham, south London.

The victim was found dead at her home in Oakridge Road on February 20 after concerned relatives contacted police.

She had suffered severe head injuries in an attack which is thought to have taken place two days earlier.

Williamson, 45, had worked as a gardener for Mrs Jobson and was a regular visitor. She is accused of carrying out the murder between February 17 and 21 this year.

She has previously denied the allegation and was due to stand trial on September 5.

Today (Thurs) her legal team successfully applied for that date to be vacated so that more work could be done on her case.

The application was not opposed by the prosecution.

Judge Anthony Morris QC re-listed the case, now expected to last two to three weeks, for February 6 next year.

Mrs Jobson, who was known as Pat, had no children and had lived alone since her husband died 10 years ago.

She had worked as a bus conductress and a secretary for London County Council and had served as an officer in the Territorial Army.

Williamson, of Rangefield Road, Downham, was remanded in custody.
