Police called to a domestic dispute in Kilburn fou
Police called to a domestic dispute in Kilburn found a young
mother in tears and two ‘very distressed small children’.
But when
they attempted to arrest the man of the house, he
‘struck an officer in the face and punched him in the stomach,’ Mr
William Thomas, prosecuting, told Isleworth Crown Court today (Tuesday
).
In the dock Clement Qualtey, 24, of St Lawrence Close, denies
assaulting Pc Philip Campbell and causing him actual bodily harm on
Christmas Eve last year.
It was mid-morning when patrolling officers were sent to the
flat occupied by Qualtey, his girl-friend and two children, said
counsel.
They found the front door ajar, two ‘obviously distressed
children inside and heard raised voices from upstairs’.
The children indicated their parents were upstairs and the two
officers went to the bedroom where they found ‘a young woman standing
by the window crying and Qualtey’, said counsel.
‘Mr Qualtey became very aggressive and as police officers came
into the room, Pc Campbell was assaulted’, said counsel.
‘He received
bruising to the bridge of his nose and around one eye’.
Eventually Qualtey was taken to Willesden Police Station where
he made a statement in which he said: ‘I said to them both I would be
coming anyway, but they came towards me still, so I hit one of them
and I was forced to the ground and cuffed.
I was still upset about
the argument with my girlfriend but I regret very much what
happened’.
The trial continues.
