A Doctor, accused of helping a 21 year old girl to get
two false passports was acquitted by a jury at
Southwark Crown court.
Dr.
Ian Greenhalgh, 47, was accused of signing two
passport forms saying he knew the applicants.
But the general practitioner denied the allegations
telling police he did not even know where they lived, the court
heard.
Dr Greenhalgh explained that his receptionist “made a
mistake” and
had passed him the application forms to sign saying the girls
concerned were patients of his.
But the girls whose photos appeared on the forms told
police they had never heard of the doctor, said Mr Michael Wood,
prosecuting.
Dr.
Greenhalgh was twice telephoned by police and had
confirmed that his endorsement was correct, the court was told.
On December 3 last year he surrendered himself to police
and told them he would deny any allegations that were made
against him.
Dr.
Greenhalgh, of Redston Road, Hornsey, has been a
doctor for 25 years and is a principal partner at his practice
in Lower Clapton Road, Clapton.
He denied assisting another in
the attempt to dishonestly obtain two false passports, and
making two untrue statements.
Thc 21-year-old girl is due to appear at Knightsbridge
crown court after pleading guilty to attempting to obtain two
false passports and possessing an offensive weapon.
