Covid tester beat up his boss on the bus

A former Covid-19 test centre employee who beat his former boss unconscious on the top deck of a bus was jailed for nine months.

Shajifu Saif Rahman, 29, was caught on CCTV repeatedly punching Murray Foggo on the 349 bus to Stamford Hill, north London on 3 June 2021.

Mr Foggo had been Rahman’s supervisor at a Covid-19 testing centre in north London for three months until April 2021, when Rahman was let go.

They had previously argued and on one occasion Rahman had been seen by another supervisor waiting for Mr Foggo at a bus stop, Wood Green Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Elega Simpson said on the day of the attack Mr Foggo took a seat upstairs on the bus before Rahman boarded in Edmonton.

CCTV footage played in court showed Rahman, dressed in a black hoodie and wearing a mask punching Mr Foggo repeatedly in the face before running back down the stairs of the bus.

Ms Simpson added: ‘The next thing the complainant remembers is waking up the next day with a hospital tag around his wrist.’

Mr Foggo was left with concussion and cuts above both eyebrows. He also suffered from conjunctivitis and memory loss.

He said in a statement read out in court: ‘I was shocked that someone would want to hurt me in this way.

‘The injury was so bad that I could feel it affect my head for months afterwards.’

Mr Foggo added that the attack left him ‘nervous and apprehensive’ about travelling on buses.

Judge Karim Ezzat told Rahman: ‘This was not an impulsive action. When you saw your opportunity, going up there, quickly beating him, before making your retreat.

‘That is what took place.

‘This offence is so serious that only an immediate term of imprisonment is appropriate.’

Rahman, of Edmonton, earlier admitted assaulting causing actual bodily harm.
