A witness in the Edmonton axe murder trial told a court today (Fri) how he helped tape one of the accused killers as he described the horrendous crime.

An Old Bailey jury has heard Manokumar Kumar, 31, bled to death after his right arm was virtually severed in the attack at his home.

The prosecution claim the victim was killed after a row over the profits from a massive credit card fraud.

Alleged axeman Ruben Thanavalisingham, 19, and the victim were part of a Tamil gang making huge sums from using stolen or ‘cloned’ credit cards to buy goods at petrol stations, the court has heard.

But Kumar was allegedly murdered by Ruben and Parama ‘Tillac’ Thilagesvaran, 27, after they argued over the spoils from their scams.

After the killing Ruben dumped blood stained clothing at the home of Siluvai ‘Sukri’ Mano, 27, the court has heard.

Patrick Mundele, 31, a former housemate of Ruben today (Fri) described how he recorded Tillac talking about the killing at their Edmonton home after police asked him to help solve the crime.

He told the court Ruben and Tillac did not return home on the night Mr Kumar was murdered.

On the day his body was found, Mr Mundele said he received a call from Ruben asking him to find his immigration papers.

The witness said he was told by Ruben that Tillac would come and collect the documents.

But shortly afterwards the police arrived at the house, said Mr Mundele.

Detectives hid a tape recorder behind the sofa in the house and when Tillac arrived Mr Mundele quizzed him about the murder.

‘He said Ruben has killed his boss,’ Mr Mundele told the court.

Tillac allegedly went on to say the dead man was his employer who gave him credit cards.

‘He said it was because of credit cards.

That is their business,’ Mr Mundele added.

The witness said he was told the murder weapon was ‘like a knife a butcher cuts meat with.

‘

Tillac told him Ruben got into the victim’s house via +a window while Kumar was watching TV.

Ad Ruben carried out the horrific attack, Tillac stood outside the front door, the jury heard.

‘When Ruben opened the door Tillac saw his boss was dead,’ Mr Mundele said.

‘Tillac said he did not know Ruben was going to kill his boss.

‘

‘I said: ‘You knew something like this was going to happen and you did nothing to stop it.

”

‘He said he was frightened Ruben was going to turn and beat him as well.

‘

Ruben Thanavalisingham, of Moree Way, and Parama Thilagesvaran, of Haselbury Road, both Edmonton, deny murdering Mr Kumar between October 29 and November 1 last year.

Mano, of Bridgewater Rd, Alperton, denies doing acts tending to pervert the course of public justice between October 29 and November 9 last year.

The trial continues.
