Partially blind man denies two murders

A partially blind man accused of killing a sex worker after being released on police bail on suspicion of murdering another woman has denied the two murders.

The body of Carmenza Valencia Trujillo, 53, was found on the Aylesbury estate in Peckham, southeast London in March last year.

Simon Levy, 40, was arrested on 1 April on suspicion of the murder of Ms Trujilo but released by police under investigation.

On 24 August sex worker Sheryl Wilkins, 39, was found dead in a car park near a B&M store in High Road, Tottenham.

Levy was rearrested on 4 September and is now accused of the murder of both women.

Levy, of Beaufoy Road, Tottenham, appeared at the Old Bailey today (fri) from HMP Belmarsh wearing a grey tracksuit and black sunglasses.

He denied two counts of murder.

He also denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent, intentional suffocation and two counts of rape in relation to another sex worker, who cannot be named, on 21 January 2025.

A seven-week trial before a High Court judge will begin on 22 June.

Levy is blind in one eye.

The judge, the Recorder of London Mark Lucraft, said prosecutors should serve any outstanding material to the defence by 29 May ‘to know where the battle lines are.’

At an earlier hearing prosecutor Tom Little said: ‘The body of the deceased was found in the early evening of 17 March 2025 in a block of flats which is very largely disused.

‘There is evidence the defendant travelled the day before to the area and then was very close by to the location where the deceased was found.

‘Scientific evidence in relation to her body supports the fact they must have met up and there was some form of sexual encounter between the two of them and our case is he she was murdered her as a result of or during that encounter.’

Levy denies two counts of murder.

He also denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent, intentional suffocation and two counts of rape.
