TRAVISS: ‘SHE CONSENTED’ SAYS AMY WINEHOUSE EX RAPE ACCUSED

The ex-boyfriend of Amy Winehouse told jurors today (WEDS) the woman who accused him of raping while she slept had consented to ‘absolutely everything’.

Reg Traviss, 35, is alleged to have attacked the 27-year-old woman twice at his flat when was so drunk she could not stand up following a boozy night out in London.

The alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she woke up to find Traviss raping her on two occasions in December 2011.

Traviss, who had been seeing Amy Winehouse for more than a year before the Back to Black singer died in July 2011, told jurors today he would never attack a woman.

He was asked by barrister Ian Winter QC: ‘Did she consent to everything that happened in your flat that night?’

Traviss said: ‘Absolutely everything’.

Mr Winter said: ‘Is there any question at all that your raped her?’

‘None whatsoever,’ answered Traviss.

‘Would you ever do such a thing to a woman?’

‘No I would not,’ said the film maker.

Traviss said he and the woman had had protected, consensual sex twice at his flat in Marylebone, north London.

He said on the first occasion the woman had asked him to get in bed with her after he had offered to sleep on the sofa.

He said: ‘I was thinking if she instigates sex then yes I will have sex with her.

‘She’s someone I know and I trust and though she’s not someone I particularly fancied she was an attractive girl.

‘I thought if she does not then I not going to instigate anything.

‘Pretty much straight away we started kissing and touching and it just happened pretty much instantly.’

He added: ‘She was leading it just as much as I was going along with it. It was completely equal.

‘She was completely together mentally, compos mentis, she was completely together. She was wide awake.’

Traviss told the court they had stopped having sex after the woman said she did not think they should be and he agreed.

He said they went into the living room and talked about previous relationships and her family before she led him back to bed.

‘I was part way through saying something and she cut me off, she stood up, and took me by the hand and said ”Come on” and took me back to bed,’ he said.

‘She led me back to bed by the hand.’

Traviss told the court they had then had protected sex again.

‘I would describe it as very slow and sensuous,’ the witness said.

He told jurors that when they finished she had wanted to carry on but, after some time, he had told her ‘I’m tired. I need to go to sleep’.

Prosecutor Katherine Lumsdon told jurors the woman had been ‘very drunk’ and had been ‘propping herself up’ in the last of three bars she had gone to with Traviss on December 30, 2011.

But Traviss said today that she was not as drunk as she claimed to be and had held open a 11ft high glass door for him when the left the final bar at around 3.30am.

He said: ‘I think that is a very good indication of how stable she was on her feet’.

Traviss said earlier they had both been ‘merry’.

‘We were both merry, as in terms of a level of being drunk.

‘We were drunk because we had been out for a few hours drinking.

‘We had a lot of space in between out in the cold smoking and getting fresh air.

‘I would say we were merry drunk.’

Mr Winter asked: ‘Was she able to walk into the flat?’

Traviss replied: ‘Absolutely, we just walked up. There was no carrying whatsoever. She was completely normal in that respect.

‘She asked ”Can I put some candles on?”

‘I’ve got these three big candles just sitting in the fireplace and I said ”Yeah, sure.”

‘She squatted down by the fire and lit them.’

Traviss, of (Flat B), 44 Devonshire Street, Marylebone, denies two counts of rape.

The trial continues.
